Antimicrobial Peptides Based on Bacterial S1 Protein Sequences as a Potential Alternative to Antibiotics

نویسندگان

چکیده

An original approach to the development of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) with a new mechanism action based on directed coaggregation peptide target protein is proposed. The unique multifunctional bacterial ribosomal S1 was chosen as protein. amyloidogenic and antibacterial effects various synthesized basis sequences were studied. results obtained can serve for creation AMPs against strains pathogenic organisms.

Antimicrobial peptides as potential tool to fight bacterial biofilm.

Recently, the topic of biofilm has met a huge interest of researchers owing to a significant role played by this microbial life form in severe infections. These well organised three-dimensional microbial communities are characterized by a strong resistance to antimicrobials. Biofilms significantly contribute to morbidity and mortality as related infections are very difficult to treat due to the...

Antimicrobial peptides: A natural alternative to chemical antibiotics and a potential for applied biotechnology

A large group of low molecular weight natural compounds that exhibit antimicrobial activity has been isolated from animals and plants during the past two decades. Among them, cationic peptides are the most widespread. Interestingly, the variety and diversity of these peptides seem to be much wider than suspected. In fact, novel classes of peptides with varying chemical propertiescontinue to be ...

The Potential Use of Essential Oil Nanoemulsion as a Novel Alternative to Antibiotics in Poultry Production-A Review

Antibiotics are commonly used due to their antimicrobial activity and widely used for promoting growth, preventing diseases or therapy in poultry. The misuse of antibiotics in livestock production induces resistant bacteria into the environment. Therefore, the need to develop alternatives to antibiotics become increasingly important, that protect and improve global public health. The phytobioti...

Probing Protein Sequences as Sources for Encrypted Antimicrobial Peptides

Starting from the premise that a wealth of potentially biologically active peptides may lurk within proteins, we describe here a methodology to identify putative antimicrobial peptides encrypted in protein sequences. Candidate peptides were identified using a new screening procedure based on physicochemical criteria to reveal matching peptides within protein databases. Fifteen such peptides, al...

Effect of antibiotics and antimicrobial peptides on single protein motility.

Following the movement of individual molecules of a bacterial surface protein in vivo we investigated the effects of antibiotics and antimicrobial peptides on protein motility and membrane structure. In previous work we engineered the lambda-receptor of Escherichia coli such that less than one receptor per cell is in vivo biotinylated and can bind to a streptavidin coated bead. Such a bead serv...
